Now you can generate a ServiceSheet without having a VIN handy. Sometimes, you just want to know “what gets done at [whatever mileage] on [whatever bike].” We have you covered. See that little “[No VIN]” link underneath the VIN entry box on the first page?

If you click that link, you’ll get the following display:

You can switch back to the previous screen by clicking the “[Use VIN]” link. But, let’s assume you really don’t have a VIN and want to be here. Here’s how you use it.
The year is prefilled with “200″ with the intention that you will be putting in a last digit of 0 through 9, to make the year 2000 through 2009. You can, of course, remove the 200, and make it 1986, or 1998, or any year you want, really. And that prefix is configurable by your manager, so if you are generating sheets for 1990s models mostly, you might want to change the preference to “199″. You can also turn it off completely if you find it gets in your way.
That takes care of the year. The other box is for the model. You can do any of the following:
- leave it blank and the system will return a list of all the models we know of for that particular year.
- enter a model name, like Heritage, and the system will return all the Heritage Softail® motorcycles for that year.
- enter a long model code, like FLSTC, and the system will return all the vehicles we know of that include FLSTC in the name, including FLSTCI and FLSTC Shrine. This is useful if you know it’s some kind of Softail® with a 16″ front wheel. You can just enter FLS and get a list of all the FL Softail® motorcycles for that year.
- If you’re really good, and you know the 3 letter model code (like BJY), you can enter that too. In that case, you’re only going to get one vehicle returned for that year.
- After you enter the first letter, the system will try to auto-complete the model for you, based on the characters you’ve already entered.
If you choose to generate a sheet this way, without using a VIN, you won’t have the chance to offer upgrades: they will be visible on-screen, but disabled. This function is designed to answer this specific question from the customer:
What exactly do you guys do for a 10,000 mile checkup on a 2004 Heritage? No, I don’t have my VIN. No, I don’t have an insurance card. No, my bike is not outside. No, I’ve never had a service done here before.
